What sort of service is FreedomPop? What about the LTE SIM?
FreedomPop has traditionally been a Sprint MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) with Data-Only Plans. You can make text/calls over any data connection (1X, 3G, LTE, LTE Plus, and WiFi) on FreedomPop with quality depending on the data signal. FreedomPop has always sold their own refurbished Sprint devices and they also have a BYOD Program to bring your own eligible Sprint devices. Note that you should enter the MEID (HEX) which is the same as the IMEI without the last digit.
Back in December 2016, FreedomPop starting selling the LTE SIM (AT&T) for use with GSM devices. This is completely different from the Sprint (CDMA) service. With the LTE SIM (AT&T), you’ll have full-speed LTE service on AT&T. The data speeds are not capped on the LTE SIM and the SIM uses the domestic Jasper server which was previously used by Cricket. You can use the LTE SIM with any Unlocked GSM Device that supports AT&T Service. However, the LTE SIM will also work even in any AT&T devices including locked/prepaid. You can also switch the LTE SIM between devices on the fly as there is no activation process for GSM and service is tied to the SIM. Some users even purchase multiple LTE SIM's for additional data on the same device.
Note: The LTE SIM is a 3-In-1 SIM Kit that will fit in any device regardless of model.

Is service really free every month? How can I avoid getting charged?
When you purchase off FreedomPop, the SIM/Device will be bundled with a trial of a premium plan and premium services which you'll want to downgrade. Those will be visible during check-out. In order to downgrade the plan, you'll need to have at least $2.00 in account balance.
1. Follow our guide to disable Automatic Top-Up. You'll be prompted to add $5.00 in account credit when disabling Top-Up. See our full article for the details.
2. Downgrade to the Free Plan. This requires a minimum balance of $2.00 on your account, so that's why we recommend disabling Top-Up for $5.00 before downgrading the plan. Otherwise you'll be prompted to add $15.00 in account balance.
3. Downgrade any Services. You can downgrade services any time, and no minimum balance is required. See our full guide for more details.
Note: The most common bundled service is FreedomPop Premier, and all LTE SIM's will only have this service. There’s a faster way to downgrade Premier by heading directly to the Downgrade Premier page and following through with the prompt by hitting “Downgrade and Lose Data”. If the only service you have is FreedomPop Premier, then I recommend downgrading twice using this direct link. That's it. That will ensure that Premier is permanently downgraded. You can always ensure that no other services are active by heading over to the Account Overview. If no services appear, then you will not be charged.
Will I be charged for overages?
FreedomPop confirmed they implemented overage forgiveness. If you have Top-Up disabled, you will not be charged at all for any overages. They also will no longer pause accounts that are within 100MB from the plan limit. So you can now use up to the full allotment with no issues, and you also will not have to worry about getting charged for going over the limit before their system pauses the account. It's now on them. Disabling Top-Up requires a one-time $5.00 charge and takes only a few seconds of your time. Follow our Disabling Top-Up Guide for further assistance.
Do you get 1GB LTE/Month on the Free Plan? I've also heard 700MB/Month? How is that possible?
The default Free Plan for Sprint devices is 500MB/Month while the default Free Plan for the LTE SIM is 200MB/Month. However, you can readily add Freedom Friends to any account to get 1GB/Month on Sprint devices or 700MB/Month on the LTE SIM. Freedom Friends is a special feature that lets you add other FreedomPop Accounts as friends using their e-mail addresses. Once they accept the request, you'll get 50MB/Friend with the feature maxing out at 500MB/Month. The monthly data capacity is permanently increased unless one of your friends no longer has an active account. You can invite friends on the Freedom Friends page. There are many free lists of friends available online including this one. You can only invite by e-mail up to 300 characters at a time, so it will take several pastes.
Do I have to use the FreedomPop Messaging Application? Can I upgrade to Unlimited Talk/Text?
I personally often recommend using Hangouts with a Google Voice Number instead of the FreedomPop Messaging Application (Unless They Use Premium Voice). Google Voice supports MMS/Group Messaging, Visual Voicemail, and Unlimited Talk/Text with no additional fees unlike FreedomPop which charges monthly fees for all those services. Furthermore, Hangouts/GV is a much more robust service which even includes call forwarding to any number of verified physical lines and has support for every major operating system (Android, iOS, Windows, Mac OS X, Chrome OS, and Linux). You could even have it set-up so that your home phone, desktop, laptop, tablet, and cell phone all ring simultaneously if you really wanted.
Note: The Default Free Plan includes 500 Text/200 Minutes on the FreedomPop Messaging Application. The application is pre-installed on FreedomPop devices and available on the Play Store. You can select a number in your requested area code or location.
What if I want to make normal phone calls?
If you purchase the Premium Voice Service ($2.99/Month), you’ll be able to make normal outgoing phone calls and receive incoming phone calls when you have no data signal. Otherwise, calls will be routed over the data connection as long as the FreedomPop Messaging Application remains installed. All calls will be routed over Premium Voice if the application is not installed.
Note: You are limited to 100 Minutes through Premium Voice on the Free Plan. Premium Voice is only available for Sprint devices and not the LTE SIM (AT&T).
Can I port my current phone number over to FreedomPop?
You have a couple options. If you plan on using the FreedomPop Messaging Application, then you can port your number to FreedomPop ($9.99 Fee). Alternatively, you can port your number into Google Voice ($20.00 Fee) if you use Hangouts/GV.
How fast is service? How is coverage?
Sprint devices have a 1Mbps speed cap for the Free Plan and 5Mbps speed cap for paid plans which FreedomPop implemented for all users in Fall 2017. For any paid users who opt to keep FreedomPop Premier (Generally $9.99/Month) or customers who opt for the Speed Boost service ($4.99/Month), there is no speed cap. The LTE SIM (AT&T) currently has no speed cap, and you can reach as high as 100Mbps+ in very good coverage areas just as with a normal AT&T Plan. Note that MVNO's on either network may be deprioritized in busy areas with high network congestion which may result in slower speeds. That's standard for any MVNO piggybacking on a major network. You only have native coverage (No off-network roaming) from each respective network, so check the Sprint and AT&T Coverage Maps to see if they will work well in your area. Even users in Puerto Rico/USVI will have native coverage from both AT&T and Sprint depending on location.
Who should I contact if I need technical support?
I recommend reaching out to FreedomPop Support on Twitter (@FreedomPopHelp) or Facebook. The most experienced representatives and forum moderators are in charge of the social media channels. You'll normally receive a response within 1-2 Business Days. The phone operatives have varying degrees of experience and won't provide as consistently solid support. FreedomPop will even refund for accidental purchases if you send a polite request and have not used the services in question.
I hate FreedomPoop. I want to cancel my account!
If you want to cancel your account, you can immediately cancel any time online within a few seconds. You do not need to call or contact FreedomPop.
